STIPAN TADIĆ

Stipan Tadić (b. 1986, Croatia) works mostly on personal subject matter. In his images, concept dictates the style underlining it with humorous simplicity and the urge to juxtapose often two seemingly unrelated narratives. Tadic has always been devoted to traditional ways of painting, trying to stay as simple as possible. A first-generation student in his family, he always felt the need to bridge his working-class background with his art world surroundings. Since he moved to the US in 2018 Tadic has been concerned with South Eastern European identity in the context of Europe and the postcolonial discourse. His images have lately been referencing Brueghel and classical European painting, as well as Socialist realism and Croatian folk art, embedding them into his daily experience in the US.
